Gaia Infrastructure Partners is run by leading investment, engineering and strategy veterans.
South Africa has massive infrastructure requirements, at an estimated cost of R3 trillion over 15 years, these infrastructure needs are unaffordable for the state. South Africa has a highly developed savings industry that is underinvested in the infrastructure space. The banking industry is overexposed to this sector and we believe that banks cannot be long-term holders of infrastructure assets.
Gaia Infrastructure Partners focuses on emerging South African infrastructure investment opportunities. We believe there is a great need for investment vehicles that enable investors to access the South African and sub-Saharan African growth story.
The retirement industry is largely absent in successful Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement (REIPPPP) projects and investments. Pension funds and asset management firms often have limited investment mandates and buy-side expertise in the infrastructure asset class. Furthermore, European utility companies and private equity funds dominate REIPPPP, and we believe the Gaia Infrastructure funds will present new viable investment opportunities in infrastructure.
